Our Science
Placing the creation of new drug candidate
compounds at the centre of our R&D.
Advalife Science views life as a complex system of interconnected relationships. Linking basic research, drug discovery and clinical insight, we pursue the discovery, evaluation and development of new drug candidate compounds.

Research & Development
The centre of our R&D
The main axis of our research and development is new drug candidate compounds. Rather than confining ourselves to a single-component, single-target framework, we pursue the discovery and scientific validation of candidates from a complex-systems standpoint that takes in multiple components, multiple targets and network effects.

Our R&D policy: rather than starting from any one research subject, we position each research area beneath a single overriding objective — the creation of new drug candidate compounds.
Our Approach
We do not reject reductionist analysis; we take in its results while treating the interactions among molecules, cells, tissues and the whole organism as a system. Research hypotheses are formed on scientific evidence and connected through to candidate evaluation, intellectual property, joint research, non-clinical work, manufacturing and CMC, and clinical development.
01
Clinical insight and open questions
Complex-systems drug discovery: the research base / Taking multi-layered, multi-factor interactions as a whole.
02
Hypothesis formation
Capturing the relationships between multiple factors and turning them into testable hypotheses.
03
Basic and non-clinical research
Validating activity, quality and safety step by step.
06
Clinical development
Bridging to drug development in line with regulatory requirements.
05
Intellectual property and joint research
Protecting results as intellectual property and extending them into collaboration with universities and companies.
04
Evaluation of candidate compounds
Narrowing down candidates on the basis of reproducibility and developability.
Research → Drug Discovery → CMC → Clinical Development
Research results are carried step by step through candidate evaluation, non-clinical work, manufacturing and CMC, and clinical development.
Research Platform
We build the research, manufacturing, quality and development platform needed to move new drug development forward, and carry our research results through to the next stage.
Discovery and evaluation
Through joint research with universities and research institutions, we examine mechanism of action, relevance to disease and assay systems from several angles.
Manufacturing and quality
With manufacturing and quality control in view from the research stage, we build evaluation and manufacturing platforms that give reproducible results.
Development and translation
By connecting non-clinical and clinical development, intellectual property, CRO and pharmaceutical functions, we work towards the transition into drug development.
To support research activity with research institutions and companies in Japan and abroad, we maintain a supply capability for research materials through a group company.

Collaboration
Joint research and academic partnerships
Working with universities, research institutions, healthcare institutions and pharmaceutical organisations in Japan and abroad, we connect research results through to the development of new drug candidate compounds. We do not place any single disease area at the centre of the organisation as a whole; our research runs across multiple biological phenomena and disease areas.
